Professor Pankaj Vadgama is currently Director of the IRC in Biomedical Materials, Professor of Clinical Biochemistry, and until 2015, Head of Service in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Royal London Hospital. Prior to this he was Professor of Clinical Biochemistry, University of Manchester and Professor of Medical Biomaterials, Manchester Materials Science Centre. Professor Vadgama's research interests include the development of biocompatible biosensors for reliable metabolite monitoring in critically ill patients. Specific systems include sensors for glucose and lactate. He has also investigated the interaction of cells and proteins at materials surfaces, the use of spider silk as a tissue engineering scaffold and microfluidics for solute separation.
